paranoia reaches all time high

new york city subway riders are now subjected to random bag searches in the name of prevention. the patriot act looks to be permanently extended (it's already been given another 10 year life span at the minimum). and the london police shot a man 5 times INSIDE a train of the london underground for being a suspected bomber unwilling to stop for the police. he was suspected from the incident on 07/21. turns out he wasn't. whoops.
it's a shame. the more i think about the state of the world right now, the more it makes me want to escape it all. the way i've done this? i've placed an order for comics. ha. fuck the entire world. give me illustrations and wit and escapism or give me death!
in better news, i received the coolest birthday present yesterday: a box of six fantastic red wines with a cool silver wine key and bottle stopper from sherry, matt, and nicci for my birthday. i definitely have to host a wine tasting now. i can't just keep that type of generosity to myself or else i would be unkind and probably very drunk.
and finish off with "meh news," brian left. while i am pretty bummed that he is going back to indiana, it certainly will alleviate some awkward moments. he admitted it was weird being shuffled between two houses like a divorced child. it's unfortunate, but at least we made it work. we spent his last night here over at erin's house drinking martinis. emily had to leave early for work and morgan was engrossed in the o.c., so we watched erin learn how to knit from her friend diana while brian and i made conversation and looked through erin's photographs (now i understand the pink tank top and cut off's joke).

just throwin it out there but all the stories i've read about the shooting in london says it's inconclusive whether or not he was linked. do you maybe have a better linke?
But, it's scary that it's shoot to kill. Granted, if this were a suicide bomber and he was running inside an occupied train...
still, scary shit eh? and fuck the patriot act (and it's damn tax when I buy my airplane tickets).
the beauty of the global media machine is that they all can't get their story straight: CNN says it's not clear, the BBC says it is directly related, the Guardian is saying that the man shot was "suspicious" but not identified as a bomber, and Reuters is saying the man killed was not a suspect. in my opinion it is now the duty of the police officers involved to justify the shooting. innocent until proven guilty right? i assume this still applies during bouts of mass hysteria.

Damn, that's depressing. I keep wondering why the fuck he ran and why he jumped into the train, but perhaps it was because the police were in normal wear. Sad.
